Kingdom Homes Tour The Elie Scarecrow Festival

By | Fernlea House News, Kingdom Homes News, Lomond View News, News

The Elie Scarecrow Festival has been taking place for many years. Businesses and the general public take part by making scarecrows and displaying them around the village. Locals can buy a map at local shops which show where all the entries are located.

Kingdom Homes two bus teams – Tom and Morag and Ron and Margaret took residents from Lomond View in Falkland and Fernlea House in Cardenden on the hunt for the elusive scarecrows but to add to the fun they dressed up as very passable scarecrows themselves.

The two teams managed to locate a few of them as soon as they arrived in Elie on route to their rendezvous at the picnic area where they had lunch. After they had eaten they set off on the hunt again. The residents thoroughly enjoyed their unusual day out, managing to find many scarecrows between them.

By | Methven House News, News

Tom Craigie and Anne Herd went over to the Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh last week with Activities Co-Ordinator Colleen Smith to deliver the Easter eggs that had been donated by the residents, their families and staff at Methven House.

As you can see from the photos below, there was a great response to our Easter Egg Challenge and all the eggs were handed over to the nurse in charge to be distributed amongst the children in hospital over Easter. Thank you to everyone who donated an egg.

Matinee Memories

Kingdom Homes bus driver, Tom Slowey and passenger assistant, Morag McGeehan try to make journeys as interesting as possible for residents. Recently they “transported” their passengers from various of our care homes back in time to the golden age of screen legends. Photographs of stars from past decades adorned the inside of the bus with residents having fun trying to name all the screen idols.

Tom and Morag dressed up in 1940’s style cinema usherette costumes, complete with pillbox hats (which Tom managed to wear at a very jaunty angle!). Morag also wore a wig styled in victory curls – the fashion of the 1940’s. Morag offered sweets from her usherettes tray as she walked up and down the “isle” of the bus.

The residents recalled the names of the cinemas in their home town, most of which are closed now sadly. Willie from Lomond View remembered The Regal, The Troxy and Palace in Methil and Leven. Ina from Fernlea House recalled the Playhouse in Penicuik. “9d at the front or 1s 3d for the good seats.”

For Arthur from Methven House it was a real memory stirrer as he worked with 20th Century Fox and was involved with film distribution and recalled how some stars used to turn up at the office just to get paid he thought!

Pureed Food Challenge For Our Chefs

By | Kingdom Homes News, News

Chefs and cooks at each of our care homes are rising to the challenge of making food for our residents who require a pureed diet as appetizing as possible. These delicious looking sandwiches in the main photo above look every bit as appetizing as the regular sandwiches on the plate behind. It’s hard to believe they are pureed but are still instantly recognisable as a “sandwich”.

We’ve also added photographs of some pureed cream cakes below.

Currently our chefs and cooks are taking part in a fun competition to produce the most appealing and recognizable pureed scone with jam. These photos will appear on our website and Facebook page soon.

The Next Exciting Project For Kingdom Homes

By | Kingdom Homes News, News

Kingdom Homes has bought the former Fife College building in Leven’s Victoria Street. Work will start shortly to convert the building into a 35 bedroom care home specialising in the care of residents with dementia related illnesses. Managing Director, Colin Smart said “This will be our 11th care home in Fife and will be named Walton House.

Work to convert the building will start in March and, all going to plan, the care home will be completed and ready to welcome the first residents around September this year. The home will be equipped with the latest dementia aids and staff will have the appropriate training to support and care for individuals with dementia.

Once fully operational the care home will provide jobs for around 40 staff in various roles including nurses, care assistants, chefs, domestic and kitchen assistant roles. The building is in an ideal location with the health centre, post office, shops and town centre close at hand. We are very much looking forward to getting Kingdom Homes latest project up and running in the next few weeks.”

Happy Birthday Alice

By | Camilla House News, News

Alice Milne recently celebrated a very special birthday with her colleagues at Camilla House. Alice works in the kitchen as well as covering night shifts as a Care Assistant when required. This lady is an amazingly youthful looking 80 year old however who likes to keep herself busy and has no thoughts on hanging up her uniform anytime soon.

In fact Alice was voted Camilla House “Employee of the Year” for 2014 which shows the high regard she is held in by her work mates.

Congratulations and Many Happy Returns from everyone at Kingdom Homes.
