Happy Birthday Alice

By | Camilla House News, News

Alice Milne recently celebrated a very special birthday with her colleagues at Camilla House. Alice works in the kitchen as well as covering night shifts as a Care Assistant when required. This lady is an amazingly youthful looking 80 year old however who likes to keep herself busy and has no thoughts on hanging up her uniform anytime soon.

In fact Alice was voted Camilla House “Employee of the Year” for 2014 which shows the high regard she is held in by her work mates.

Congratulations and Many Happy Returns from everyone at Kingdom Homes.

Our Little Pony Friends

By | News

Residents and staff at Camilla House were thrilled by the visit of two little Shetland ponies to the home yesterday. Six year old Wilson and 7 month old Jack from Therapy Ponies Scotland brought huge smiles of surprise and delight to the faces of many residents. One lady, who had been having a nap in her chair, could hardly believe her eyes when she awoke to find Jack standing beside her.

It’s not every day the lift door opens to reveal two ponies but they trotted in quite happily to visit some of the residents in their bedrooms on the first floor.

Both Wilson and Jack, who was on his first visit out to meet people as he is just starting his training, were impeccably behaved throughout the time they were in Camilla House and will be welcome back at any time.

Boxes of Fun Ready for Distribution at Kingdom Homes

By | Alexander House News, All Homes, Barrogil House News, Camilla House News, Craigie house News, Fernlea House News, Kingdom Homes News, Lomond View News, Methven House News, News, Preston House News, Roselea House News

A new set of Activities Boxes is currently being distributed to all of the Kingdom Homes care homes. Each care home is getting a box filled with around 20 different activity and therapy items. The contents have been specially selected to suit individuals of all abilities including our most dependant residents. Many of the items have been sourced from specialist dementia retailers or on advice from our dementia trainer, Susan Carney.

The boxes include

  • physical games like golf, toss and talk balls, basketball
  • craft magazines and easy stitch craft kits
  • Books, word puzzles, games, DVDs and CDs
  • Reminiscence activities including smell kits, recall cards, photo packs, historical newspapers and decade specific reminiscence packs
  • Fidget kits, therapies for active hands (see the lock box in the photograph), dolls and soft toys

The contents of each box is different and they will be swapped around our care homes on a regular basis so that there is always something different to take part in. The boxes have been put together to ensure that each has a PAL (Pool Activity Level as researched and developed by Jackie Pool) balance of activities and contains a PAL inventory explaining who should use them and how individuals will best benefit from their use.

PAL checklists completed with our residents ensure that everyone is offered activities tailored to their own abilities.
