Barrogil House Residents Visit from Bank Volunteers

By | Barrogil House News, Kingdom Homes News, News | No Comments

The residents at Barrogil House spent a day with volunteers from Lloyds Bank recently as part of the Bank’s community volunteer programme, “Day to Make a Difference”. In the morning the visitors gave manicures and played bowls with the residents and in the afternoon they held a tea party and sing song.

We would like to thank the team of volunteers for their time and their involvement which was greatly appreciated by the residents and staff at Barrogil. They really “made a difference” to our residents’ day.

By | Preston House News | No Comments

Mary Craig spent an afternoon at Lomond View, our sister care home in nearby Falkland, during the Summer Festival Week and won the competition for the best summer bonnet. Lomond View was hosting an afternoon of music and everyone who came along was asked to wear a summer bonnet.

Mary decorated her own lovely straw hat with flowers and was judged the winner. Well Done Mary!!

The Playlist for Life

By | All Homes | No Comments

Kingdom Homes is a firm supporter of the ‘Playlist For Life’. If you haven’t heard of this, the ‘Playlist for Life’ is quite simply your life in music – the songs that remind us of special moments all gathered together and recorded onto a personal listening device.

Your First Dance – The Birth of Your Child – Family Holidays

We have seen in practice that not only can music be an invaluable reminiscence tool but it also has the potential to decrease anxiety and increase optimism. It is because of these properties that we promote the use of Playlist for Life’ within our care homes.

If you would like to make up a playlist for your relative contact the home’s Lifestyle Coordinator or Manager who will issue you with an information pack. Once you have made a list of approximately 10 songs/pieces of music, return this list to the Lifestyle Coordinator or Manager. You will then receive a working playlist consisting of two sets of head phones and one personal listening device downloaded with your chosen music – there is no cost. Once your relative has a playlist he or she can use it with a staff member whenever they wish and you can use it with them during your visit.

Alice Milne recently celebrated a very special birthday with her colleagues at Camilla House. Alice works in the kitchen as well as covering night shifts as a Care Assistant when required. This lady is an amazingly youthful looking 80 year old however who likes to keep herself busy and has no thoughts on hanging up her uniform anytime soon.

In fact Alice was voted Camilla House “Employee of the Year” for 2014 which show the high regard she is held in by her work mates.

Congratulations and Many Happy Returns from everyone at Kingdom Homes.
