All Board the Fernlea Princess Cruise Line!

The residents of Fernlea House in Cardenden, are about to embark on a yearlong virtual cruise thanks to the creativity of Home Manager “Captain” Caitlin Watson and her wonderful crew of staff.

When resident Kate Glover, told Caitlin how much she misses being able to travel, Caitlin and her team quickly went to work to organize the trip of a lifetime for Kate and her friends.

They have organised a yearlong event, with the home virtually visiting a different country each month including France, Italy, Germany, Greece, and Australia.

To celebrate each virtual-stop the home will be hosting a variety of activities including sampling local cuisine, crafts, games, and VR tours.

To add to the fun, each month three individuals will be awarded ‘Resident of The Month’, they will each receive a medal and be able to sit at the captains table for lunch each day.

Their first stop is France, where their Chef Paul, has already put together an amazing menu including Croque Monsieur, Coq au Vin and a section of French wines and cheeses.

*Pictured is Captain Caitlin, ready to sail and resident Margaret Paterson receiving her passenger bracelet, as the home enjoyed their official sailing away party.

New Interactive Experience Table

By | News

Kingdom Homes have an interactive digital ‘experience table’ which is aimed at helping older people – including those with dementia – improve memory recall, brain function and communication. The ‘experience table’ looks just like a real table but with a digital touch screen surface in the middle. The table offers a wide range of entertaining interactive activities from Sudoku, drawing and colouring, to reading about local history and listening to familiar tunes from the 60’s and 70’s. Residents can play alone, with friends and family – or in the below instance – other residents and staff.

The interactive table has helped residents who may be otherwise withdrawn to become more engaged with those around them. It has encouraged curiosity and more importantly – brought more fun in to the home. The table can be lowered, raised, tilted and spun which allows even those who are bed-bound or have decreased mobility to have access. Wherever the table is being used you can hear laughter and where there is no laughter – there is singing.

Kingdom Homes are always looking for the next step in providing the best experiences for our residents. The digital table is one of these steps and we are excited for all our residents to use the new equipment.

Children Join Preston Residents for Digital Table Experience

By | News

Since 2006, Kingdom Homes have run a great initiative with local nurseries and child minders – including our own nursery Little Einstein’s Kirkcaldy which allows them to visit our homes and spend quality time with our residents. Our company has a clear focus on bringing together the two generations and have found that everyone involved is reaping the benefits with wisdom being provided to the young and, in turn, longevity to the old.

Preston House in Glenrothes was joined this week by their regular guests – the children and staff from a child minder in Thornton. There was an air of excitement awaiting their arrival and energy changed as soon as the smiling faces raced through the door.

Kingdom Homes have an interactive digital ‘experience table’ aimed at helping older people, including those with dementia, improve memory recall, brain function and communication. The ‘experience table’ looks just like a real table, but with a digital touch screen surface in the middle. The table offers a wide range of entertaining interactive activities from sudoku, drawing and colouring, to reading about local history and listening to familiar tunes from the 60s and 70s. Residents can play alone or with friends and family – or in this instance – their young visitors.

The residents of Preston House played interactive games with the children and the erupt of laughter heard throughout the morning was heart-warming. The great fun had together, and the hilarity of the children, had everyone smiling from cheek to cheek. Both Care Staff and Residents commented on how uplifting they felt having the children around them. The children enjoyed the increased attention and had more opportunity to develop their social and emotional skills.

Through this exercise – it has not only allowed for Residents to bond with the children – but form friendships with each other. Through multi-player activities and the encouragement to chat, share memories and have fun it has brought a vibrancy to the home.
