A Memorable Morning for John at Preston House

John Rutherford, who lives at our Preston House Nursing Home in Glenrothes, had some very special visitors yesterday. Members of 2 Close Support Battalion REME (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) visited John to present him with a Quilt of Valour. The quilt, presented to John by Major Brian Bloomfield, was a homage to his service with the regiment from 1957 – 1959.

Accompanying Major Bloomfield were WO2 Craig Robinson, Staff Sgt Blackie, CFN Black and CFN Sermanni. Peter Kerr and Robert Holland from Legion Scotland were also present for this very special moment. Robert regularly visits to John at Preston House through the Unforgotten Forces organisation which supports older veterans in many different ways.

The plaque was fixed to John’s bedroom wall later in the afternoon by one of Kingdom Homes maintenance team.

After presenting the gifts the men stayed for a while to share a cup of tea and sandwiches and chat to John about his memories of his time in the army. John smile was evident of his enjoyment of this special morning spent with his REME and Legion Scotland visitors.
