Reducing Waste at Kingdom Homes

Tuesday, 30 March 2010

We at Kingdom Homes are aware of the challenges of preserving the natural resources of the planet.

To that end we are embarking on a programme to reduce the amount of paper we use within the organisation.

Our first challenge is to eradicate the need for paper based staff files. This will be done by utilising technology better.

We started the process over 12 months ago by moving from a paper based timesheet system to using ‘TNA’ a computerised clocking in system.

Not only did this ensure that all our staff received the wages they were entitled to, it also reduced the amount of time the home manager and payroll staff spend preparing the wages each month.

Jackie, our home manager at Camilla in Auchtertool, said that:

“It used to take me up to 4 days to complete the timesheets, now I can have them done in about 2 hours”.

Paul in the payroll department said that:

“It has halved the time it used to take me to check and input the wages”.

Our next step is to transfer all staff files onto TNA, which will safely and securely store all personal information, including training records and supervisions. This will allow the homes to free up valuable storage space, reduce paper consumption and reduce the amount of time spent on administration tasks thus allowing more time to spend with our residents in order to deliver the highest levels of care.

The process should be completed by the end of June 2010, when our next challenge, will be to reduce paper consumption and time spent on other administration tasks.
