The Glenrothes skyline has a timely new addition in the shape of a clocktower sitting atop the new Preston House Care Home adjacent to the Lomond Roundabout on the A92 Kirkcaldy to Dundee road.

"When I was a wee boy rooftop clocks were quite a regular sight in the likes of Kirkcaldy where I was born and grew up," explained Colin Smart, managing director of Kingdom Homes Ltd, Fife's longest-established care group, who own Preston House, "so I know how helpful, as well as attractive, such a facility can be.

"Sadly they don't appear to be nearly so common nowadays - indeed I can't think of many, apart from perhaps the Town House clock in Kirkcaldy, which are around at all today - so I was determined to incorporate one into the Preston House plans as a way of saying thank you to the people of Glenrothes who have not only been so supportive as the concept of the home unfolded, but who also will undoubtedly be the backbone of its success, providing the 70 new members of staff when we open our doors in a few weeks time.

"To make sure that the time can be seen on all four faces round the clock, so to speak, we have installed special blue lighting in each dial to further enhance its profile on the skyline and I really do hope that local people, and also those who regularly make use of the A92, undoubtedly one of Fife's busiest roads, will also find the clock useful when it becomes fully operational."
