Bowled Over With Success

Wednesday, 12 October 2011

Ex Club Champion Bella stands beside her photograph which has been displayed in the club since her victory in 1984. Bella admits she loved playing bowls so much she would play morning, afternoon and evenings.

The first meeting of the Kingdom Homes Residents Bowling Club was a great sucess. Bowhill Bowling Club have kindly agreed to provide a permanent venue and some of their members "hands on" assistance for our club.

During the summer months our members will play on the outside green but in winter carpet bowls can be played inside the clubhouse.

The first members to attend the club included a mixture of ex-bowlers and some complete novices. It was clear that none of the experienced bowlers had lost their touch even although some hadn't played for a number of years. The novices didn't disgrace themselves either once they had been shown the basics.

One of the ladies, Bella Moore who lives at Fernlea House in Cardenden, just a stones throw from Bowhill Bowling Club, was actually Club Champion there in 1984. Bella was delighted to see that her photograph still hangs on the wall in the clubhouse.

Isobel Inglis, who is a former Club Champion at Dunfermline South Bowling Club, was soon showing the skills which made her a winner. Isobel says her daughter will never believe that she has been playing again until she shows her the photographs.

Harry Bonthrone claimed he had never played before but he soon got the hang of it. A bit of a dark horse he turned out to be.

Bella also found her old skills hadn't left her.
