Roselea House, Specialist Dementia Unit, Cowdenbeath opening in April 2010
Half way through March already! The extreme weather that we experienced during the winter is thankfully behind us and we can all look forward to a rise in the temperature over the next few weeks. I'd like to extend my sincere thanks to all the staff for their sterling efforts getting into work during the snow. I know some people had quite a lot of difficulty and had to alter their normal travel arrangements to get in. I'd also like to thank the gardeners and handymen who worked hard to keep the car parks and paths clear so that we could all come and go safely from all of our care homes.
The central laundry, located in Preston House, Glenrothes, will be operational by the end of March. The laundry was kitted out with equipment capable of meeting the laundry requirements of all of the homes in the group. This lets us carry out washing and ironing more efficiently and economically. There are 7 washing machines, 5 dryers and 2 professional steam ironing machines. We will continue to launder residents clothing in each individual home but bedding, towels etc will benefit from laundering using the Otex System which kills germs effectively and enables us to control potential infections. Our own van will uplift and deliver the laundry to each home on a daily basis.
I am delighted to announce that our latest venture, Roselea House in Cowdenbeath - a 20 bedroom unit specialising in the care of residents suffering from dementia type illnesses - will be ready to open by the middle of April. The home has been completely refurbished over the past few months and the finishing touches are currently being applied by our team of tradesmen. The home will be open for public viewing on the 8th, 9th and 10th April. Why don't you come along and see the new home for yourself between the hours of midday and 6pm on the 8th and 9th and 10am to 4pm on Saturday 10th April? You are very welcome.
The organisation has also undergone a minor restructure within the management team since the beginning of 2010 and those affected are now hopefully settling into their new roles. Changes to an organisation of this size are inevitable to keep the focus on delivering the best possible standard of care in the most efficient way. I would like to thank everyone for retaining their positive attitude throughout this period and continuing to focus on the welfare and well being of our residents.
