Staff at the Long Service Awards on 5th June 2009.

Welcome to my first blog on the Kingdom Homes website.

The website itself has had a facelift for the New Year and contains much more information than before. Each Care Home has its own pages showing celebrations and events which have been taking place, more photographs internally and externally of each care home and recruitment and staff news. I hope you like the new layout.

Looking Back Over 2009

2009 was a good year for Kingdom Homes Limited. We celebrated the Silver Jubilee of the Company – a great achievement and one I was particularly proud of. The success of this company over the quarter century has been achieved by having a fantastic team of people working for Kingdom Homes. To celebrate the event we held various functions over the course of the year including garden parties at each care home over the summer months. The culmination was a 25 Year Anniversary Ball held at Kirkcaldy’s Dean Park Hotel on Friday 4th December, the actual anniversary of the official opening of our first care home, Methven House, which was originally sited in Sang Road, Kirkcaldy. That building is now of course the home of Kingdom Kiddies, our child care facility, which we opened once construction of the new purpose-built Methven House was completed, just round the corner on Bennochy Road, Kirkcaldy.

We also held our first ever Long Service Awards Ceremony on 5th June for those members of staff who have been with us for five years or more, in recognition of their loyal service. All in all around 40 members of staff were presented with a specially commissioned commemorative paper weight and a disco and buffet followed the presentations.

I am please to say that Alexander House in Crossgates and Camilla House in Auchtertool both established themselves and reached full occupancy during 2009 for the first time since completion in the case of the former and a substantial refurbishment and extension in the case of the latter.

Our own construction company Kingdom Construction Scotland Ltd also achieved great success last year, mainly the completion of our newest care home, Preston House in Glenrothes. My thanks to them for the tremendous effort they all contributed, completing the building work and to the staff who worked hard putting together all of the finishing touches prior to the highly successful open days that we held at the end of October. The residents of Edward House our care home in Falkland were first to move in, having first choice of bedrooms in the new facility. I would also like to mention how admirably the staff of Edward House coped with the challenge of moving themselves and all of the residents, whilst also welcoming brand new residents in to Preston House.

Looking forward to 2010

A meeting of all senior management was held early in January to discuss the way forward for Kingdom Homes Limited. Aimed at assessing all aspects of our current care delivery policy and how we may improve this to provide our residents with an even better standard of care if possible. Once these strategies have been agreed and refined our aim is to implement them throughout the organisation in such a way that residents will experience no unnecessary disruption to their daily routines. More details will emerge in future blogs.

Since taking over Hanover Court in Cowdenbeath from Hanover Housing Association we have been busy refurbishing the building and this will be completed by March when we will open a 20 bed dementia facility which has been named Roselea House.

As I said, this is the first blog on the new website and future blogs will probably be much shorter with updates on current projects and any other relevant information. Please feel free to email your thoughts on the blog itself to me at the mailbox indicated.
